There is a fun event going on next week! The Big Latch On 2014 is an event to promote breastfeeding awareness. Each year in August, at locations all over the world, breastfeeding mothers and babies all “latch on” simultaneously to promote and encourage normalcy in breastfeeding.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends babies to be breastfed for at least one year, and up to two years and beyond for maximum health benefits. Unfortunately, according to the CDC, in South Carolina only 16.4% of babies are breastfed to a year.
Spartanburg’s Big Latch On event will be held This Saturday, August 2 at 10am at Spartanburg Regional’s Heart Center Auditorium. Here is a link to their Facebook page to find more information.
Herb & Renewal is a sponsor of this event. As a breastfeeding mother of 3 (soon to be 4) children, I wholeheartedly believe in the benefits to both mother and child and our community at large. It truly is a public health issue.
So, whether you are a mother who would like to participate, or would like to volunteer as a counter, let Blair (heading up the Spartanburg group) know! You can message her via the Facebook event link.
